What’s on your mind?
Our thoughts cover swaths of mind space.
Thinking, replaying memories that hurt or that keep us from living forward.
Thinking, stewing over offenses, times that we’ve been wronged.
Thinking, as we wait. What’s going to happen? When will I know? How will this play out? When will this end/change?
Thinking, to decide. What should I do? Is this a good idea? How? Where? When?
Thinking, wondering Why? Why is this happening? Why me? Why my child?
God gave us a mind, so thinking is good. Only, think with him. Think with God.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55.8-9)
Our thoughts…God’s thoughts…
I don’t know about you, but when I think alone, my thoughts swirl until my head is spinning. Before noon, I’m drained and stressed out by the weight of carrying my thoughts. Then at night lying in the bed exhausted, I can’t sleep for the thoughts that keep me awake.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3.5-6)
Our thoughts…God’s thoughts…
TODAY, TRUST GOD.
Whatever’s on your mind, picture it. Then invite the LORD to stand between you and it – your child, a decision you need to make, an offense, a temptation, a next step, a relationship, how to handle a problem.
With God between you and it, give it directly to him. Go to him. Unload, download, ask for the very next step, ask for forgiveness or decide to forgive, admit fear, anger, jealousy, regret, sadness, loneliness…
“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30.15)
Dear God,
I don’t want to avoid, deny or try to walk around my burdens. I don’t want to think alone, much less, walk through this alone. I need you with me, to lead me. I give you my thoughts…Help me give them to you every day. Today, I choose to practice trusting you. Amen.
