I’m just gonna sit here for a minute.
I’m not answering that call. I need a minute.
I don’t have any more words today.
Just give me a minute, Sweetie; I need to catch my breath. (No, this wasn’t after a workout at the gym or a run around the neighborhood. It was a request for a pause in the whirlwind of the day and hearing Mommaaaa!)
Being a mom is a greatest privileges—and it can be exhausting.
For the longest time, I didn’t consider rest (or feeling rested) to be a possibility. Sleep was as unpredictable as sitting still. And even sitting still usually included watching a child or reading material pertaining to their school or activities. Still, I tried to find time for me, thinking this rest would restore. Though having a break proved relaxing and refreshing, this rest didn’t fill my drained places. In fact, the minute I met stress, it was as though I’d never taken a break.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11.28-9)
Inviting us near, God promises rest. Rest for our soul.
Any and every minute in the day – When we pursue intimacy with Jesus, we step in to His presence. KNOWING JESUS is taking His yoke upon us. And He fills us full with Himself.
IN HIS PRESENCE in our busy, sometimes crazy day, we FIND REST.
As we practice being present to Him, God responds. He wants us to grow very familiar with His presence. HIs presence IS rest.
Dear God,
Thank you for the gift of rest. Help us spend more time with You, enjoying Your fulfilling presence. Amen.

And so I exhale as I taste these words and am reminded of the “more breath” that He has for me this day. Thank you.
