“I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.” (Jeremiah 24.7)
A plan.
First, a gift. A heart designed with the capacity to know the Almighty.
Not just facts. Him.
God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit of God.
Second, an identity.
His people. His Beloved. The LORD’s.
Third, a relationship.
Rooted in perfect love. Demonstrated on a cross.
Finally, our response.
That we return. To Him. With our whole heart.
We return as we realize the depths of His love. No one loves us the way God does.
I’ve had to do a lot of returning to God. Wish it wasn’t so. Wish I could say I learned my lesson the first dozen times. Nope… My heart can get hard. Stubborn. Self centered. All-about-me.
There’s a cavity in our human heart designed to be filled with Him. The more we know Him, the more our heart fills with Him. Displacing the self-centeredness that affects us, even in our best moments.
God doesn’t make it hard to know Him. Through truths, story, parable, testimony, creation, ordinary life experiences, people, trials… He reveals Himself. When we open the scriptures, pray or worship, God gives us something of Himself. He shows us more of who He is.
So we can know Him.
Dear LORD,
Thank you for giving me a heart to know You. Thank you that I can call You my God. Help me return with my whole heart to You. Help me passionately pursue knowing You. Amen.
